The Caillebotte Brothers’ private world – Exhibition in Paris

If Gustave Caillebotte is renowned for his talent as a painter and his patronage to the Impressionists, his brother, Martial, composer, pianist and photographer remains to be discovered.

Until July 11, the Jacquemart-André Museum proposes a unique exhibition entitled The Caillebotte Brothers’ private world.

Unique, this exhibition features paintings of Gustave, and photographs of Martial. We discover the private and artistic world of a large Parisian family, and the deep affinities that bound the two brothers.

By moving among these works full of sensitivity, we also discover the new urban lifestyle which was taking hold at the dawn of 20th century. Paintings and photographs also reflect the Parisian way of life often illustrated by Impressionist artists.

This exhibition was organized with exceptional loans of private and public collections. More than 35 paintings, some of which had never been presented to the public, and nearly 150 modern prints taken from Martial’s originals, compose this beautiful exhibition.

Located next to the Champs Elysees, the Musee Jacquemart-Andre is an authentic mansion.

In a beautiful decor, a dazzling collection of Italian Renaissance, Flemish and French marsterpieces of the 18th century, show the passion of Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart for art.

Their whole life was devoted to the search of the finest works of art.

During your visit to the Musée Jacquemart-André, enjoy a moment of tranquility in the beautiful tea room housed in the former dining room. Furniture, tapestries, frescoes… give this place a very cozy atmosphere, where time stands still.

The Jacquemart-André Café is open independently of the museum for a snack or a lunch.

Paris at the time of the Impressionists is a beautiful exhibition to discover until July 30, 2011 at the Hotel de Ville in Paris.

Organized with the exceptional support of the Musée d’Orsay, which has transferred some 60 works at the Salle Saint-Jean in the Town Hall, the Mairie de Paris pays tribute to Edouard Manet: One hundred thirty years earlier, in 1879, Manet was refused permission to decorate a room in the newly rebuilt Town Hall…

Between 1848 and 1914, the new Paris was the focus of artistic interests.

The Impressionists Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Gustave Caillebotte, Camille Pissarro, Paul Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh, Edouard Vuillard… passionate about the modernity of the city, were inspired by a multitude of scenes from the Parisian life.

At the same time, many other painters such as Jean Beraud, Giuseppe De Nittis, Giovanni Boldini, or Devambez Andre Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen, have also explored the city in every corner.

Paintings, pastels and drawings, some sixty works of Monet, Vuillard, Degas, Caillebotte, Béraud… many of which have never been presented to the public, illustrate the new identity of Paris under Napoleon III. Many architectural documents and models complete the collection.

The hall Saint-Jean of the Hôtel de Ville has allowed the setting up of monumental works monumental works that reflect a modern and bustling Paris!

At the beginning of the visit, each child can receive a game-booklet to be completed throughout the visit, and then he can take away at home. The works intended for the young public are marked with a small logo.
