Canaletto-Guardi: almost fifty works on display

This highly informative Canaletto-Guardi exhibition is divided into six sections. The first looks back at the origins of the veduta genre – this very realistic pictorial art, based on the precise representation of perspectives and topographic details – and the early career of Canaletto, influenced by his illustrious predecessors.

The exhibition continues with a side-by-side comparison of works by Canaletto-Guardi, who began his career a few years later, to highlight their similarities as well as their differences. Venetian squares and canals are painted in amazing detail and with a remarkable representation of the light at different times of the day.

The third section is devoted to the triumph of Guardi and his most emblematic works. The visitor is then invited to reflect on works evoking the allure of the lagoon, Venetian festivals and ceremonies and the capricci, fascinating imaginary views of the city.

Salon de la Photo 2012: 5 days of activities and events

Paris in songs : a musical exhibition with hundreds of songs referring to the capital

Indeed, it invites the public on a journey to Paris, through space and time, through hundreds of songs devoted to or referring to the capital.

Whether they are telling of a blossoming romance or a broken heart, the city’s quarters, its inhabitants, its bridges or its night life, the numerous compositions inspired by Paris are brought together in the form of sound extracts, of course, as well as visual exhibits, such as record sleeves, scores, posters or manuscripts.

Romantic theatres in Paris : a fascinating exhibition at the Musée de la Vie Romantique

In the framework of this exhibition entitled Romantic Theatres in Paris – Collections from the Carnavalet Museum, almost 100 works are on display, including portraits, drawings, stage and costume designs.

Thanks to the high number of artists who lived in the capital at that time, Paris asserted itself as one of the main stages in Europe.

The exhibition currently being held at the Musée de la Vie Romantique evokes both the different genres of that time – drama, melodrama, opera seria, narrative ballet – and the different mutations observed in the area of acting, costumes and staging. It is presented in the charming Enclos Chaptal where, from 1830 to 1860, celebrities from the Paris stage would regularly meet up.
