« Voyage en capitale, Louis Vuitton et Paris » – Musée Carnavalet, Paris – until February 27, 2011.

While the brand Louis Vuitton, which international renown is well established, embodies the art of travel for over 150 years, an exhibition tells its history for the first time in Paris.
In 1854, Louis Vuitton set his luggage rue des Capucines in Paris and opened his first store.
He created the first flat trunk, comfortable, convenient and of quality, easier to stack than traditional trunks with rounded lids before… Ingenious, he combined elegance and expertise in specific new models: trunks with compartments (1858), bed-trunk (1868), wardrobe-trunk (1875), and secretary-trunk (1905)… In1885 the first stores opened outside France: London, New York, Philadelphia.

In 1914, his son George built a beautiful Art Nouveau building on the Champs-Elysees. This new site will host the main store of the brand, which will continue to develop into one of the uncontested emblem of luxury leather goods.
The exhibition »Voyage en capitale, Louis Vuitton et Paris » tells the story of Louis Vuitton and his family, based on the treasures of heritage collections. Over 200 works are shown: paintings, drawings, designs, advertising labels, old pictures and suitcases… so many historical winks throughout the last century.
Enjoy the beauty of these rare pieces and enter the exhibition through a Vuitton’s trunk !
